Today the fine folks in Alabama will step to the polls to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, who accepted the nomination as U.S. Attorney General from president-elect Trump.
The temporary appointee, Republican Luther Strange, lost a tight primary battle, leaving Alabama and our nation, with the less than desirable candidacy of Judge Roy Moore. It’s not without irony that this Senate seat might transition from Attorney General Sessions, who has his own history of trouble with white supremacy and honesty, only to see it filled by a bigoted pedophile.
Moore is a guy that twice has been elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama, and twice removed from that position for his lack of objectivity. In 2003, Moore refused a federal court’s order to remove a marble monument of the “Ten Commandments” from the lobby of the Alabama Judicial Building, and in 2016, for directing probate judges to continue enforcing the state’s ban on same-sex marriage despite the fact it was deemed unconstitutional.
During this Senate campaign, a total of nine women have accused Moore of inappropriate sexual or social conduct. Three women, who at the time were ages 14, 16 and 28, have stated Moore sexually assaulted them. He has denied the sexual assault allegations, but Moore did not dispute that during the 1970s he had approached or dated teenagers over the age of 16 (when he was in his 30s and serving as an assistant district attorney).
It was well-known that Moore trolled for young girls at a local mall in his hometown, and he was banned from that public area for his inappropriate behavior. Moore steadfastly refuses to acknowledge he met any of his accusers, when there is credible evidence to the contrary, including a mother of one victim confirming Moore met with her daughter.
Roy Moore is a misogynist, pedophile, xenophobic, bigoted, racist that is filled with hate and needs to be retired by residents of the “New South.” Clearly President Trump and his former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, are big fans and see many similar personality traits and proclivities that makes them want to push Moore’s candidacy.
Trump tweeted this morning, “The people of Alabama will do the right thing. Doug Jones is Pro-Abortion, weak on Crime, Military and Illegal Immigration, Bad for Gun Owners and Veterans and against the WALL. Jones is a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet. Roy Moore will always vote with us. VOTE ROY MOORE!”
A great responsibility rests upon the collective shoulders of the people of Alabama today with this special election vote. There are no liberal elites or fake media trying to tell Alabama how to vote. It’s that this is a watershed moment in America over the issues of hatred and the treatment of women. Alabama has a chance to stand up to the moral crisis our bully president has reaped upon the United States. It’s a chance to say NO to Trump’s separatist politics of hate, bigotry and racial inequality by giving Judge Moore a “thumbs down.”
Democrat Doug Jones is an honorable man and former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. He is known for prosecuting KKK members and indicting the Olympic Park Bomber. This is a man who has personally been tough on crime as a civil servant for America and the people of Alabama.
Public service, there’s something Donald Trump knows nothing about.
Take a heads-up from one of your own Alabama, NBA legend Charles Barkley, a Republican, who last night in Birmingham spoke at a Doug Jones rally, endorsing the Democrat, and pleaded for Alabama to do the right thing, adding, “I am begging and urging everybody to get out, call all your friends. We gotta, at some point, we gotta stop looking like idiots to the nation.”
